Welcome to the Dağ Research Group at Bilkent University’s Department of Chemistry!
We are a dynamic research team focused on the design, synthesis, and characterization of advanced materials of self-assembly. Our group specializes in understanding the fundamental self-assembly processes of surfactants with transition metal salts to obtain special type of liquid crystals.
Our group bridges the gap between fundamental physical chemistry and applied materials science. By manipulating self-assembly mechanisms, we engineer high-surface-area materials optimized for specific electrochemical and structural performances.
Our core research pillars include:
- Lyotropic Liquid Crystals: Investigating surfactant self-assembly in various solvent environments, mapping phase behaviors from salt-in-water to water-in-salt regimes.
- Mesoporous Materials Synthesis: Developing scalable nanoarchitectonics for producing highly ordered, mesoporous transition-metal oxides and phosphates.
- Electrocatalysis & Energy Materials: Exploring the synthesis and rigorous characterization (using techniques like XRD, ATR-FTIR, SEM, and N2 adsorption-desorption) of targeted mesoporous structures.
