Research in Dag Group can be composed in three main fields which all of them are intertwined with another. The methods that employed in the experiments include the synthesis of homogenous liquid crystal solutions, determination of order and stability of these mesophases by Polarized Optical Microscopy (POM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). In addition, Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) is employed to understand the interactions of solvent molecules with surfactant and metal salts.

Mesoporous thin films by calcining the LLC phases at elevated temperatures are characterized by again XRD, ATR-FTIR, POM but also with X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and N2 adsorption-desorption techniques, some of them are located in another facility (UNAM) within the campus.
